Something to Make: Fold-up Crayon Pouch

There was a time that parents (well, mothers) weren't just encouraged to sew clothing and projects for their children, but were expected. Now, this isn't quite the norm nowadays but mothers and fathers are getting back in the habit of being crafty for their and their kid's sakes. For those who are starting to get the itch to stitch, we wanted to create a project that could be done without patterns and in as short amount of time as possible.

Canine Rivalry

When the first baby of the house has four legs, it's only natural to wonder what's going to happen with the new baby arrives. We can only imagine that in every dog/baby household, there has to be a little bit of canine/sibling rivalry bound to happen.

Affordable Art with Personality

If you've spent any time trying to decorate your child's room or nursery, you're probably aware that the wall art with the most personality is usually found online and the your options are pretty limited at most brick and mortar baby stores. We love you Babies "R" Us (actually, we really don't), but the matching fabric art to go with the crib bedding and curtains isn't cutting it.

We've seen and bought some great stuff online (Sion Lee's art is a good example) but can't help but to want even more options. That's why we were delighted to see iStockphoto offers the ability to purchase prints.

iStockphoto is a photo/illustration stock photo service that relies on the contributions of their members. Because it's user-generated art, the prices of digital are quite affordable (between $1-$10 for most illustration digital files). While most of the art is used (we assume) professionally for online and print work, the ability to get prints of iStockphoto art gives parent-decorators a whole lot more options. 11x14 prints start at $9.95. Here's a screenshot showing how to find the "buy print" link.

There are a number of artists on iStockphoto with portfolios suited for the nursery or child's room and it's quite easy to browse for terms and color palettes. To get you started, here a few images that we would love to see hanging in the little one's room.

Bathtime Made Easier

Cute stuff is great. We love featuring it. But sometimes we just have to point out the more practical things in life. Like the tools needed to make bathtime easier for parents. Here's two items we've found, that don't scream "cutest shower gift ever," but will no doubt make bathing baby a bit easier.

Aquatopia (we first saw it featured at AT: The Nursery) gives sore knees a needed break, while also putting a few bathing necessaties at close reach. Although Aquatopia is a European product, Burlington Coat Factory carries it online for $29.99.

Next, avoid taking an unplanned bath with baby with Coocoose, the bath towel you wear. The idea of a bath apron has been around for a while (there's also models that have detachable towels), but we like the Coocoose for its size (large enough to be used for newborns to toddlers) and for its simple style. This product also originates in Europe, but can also be purchased at Baby Dagny for $58.

Celebrate the Year of the Pig

Sure, being born in the year of the dragon sounds a lot cooler than being born in the year of the pig, but for all those fortunate baby pigs being popped out this year they can look forward to a life associated with fertility, virility, happiness and honesty.
